The course is a study of diffusion, diffusional operations and stagewise separation principles. Topics include the quantitative treatment and design of mass transfer equipment involving equilibrium stage contacting. Operations included are distillation, absorption, extraction. Additional operations, such as ion exchange, drying, humidification, chromatography and membrane separation may be included at the instructor's discretion. Prerequisites: CHEN 320 (with a D or higher), CHEN 220, CHEN 312. (F;S;SS)
