This course focuses on content, pedagogy, and assessment for the foundational reading skills, early literacy development, and the Science of Reading frameworks for grades K-6. Emphasis will be placed on theories, research, and strategies for teaching and assessing the concepts of print, alphabetic principle, phonological awareness, phonemic awareness, orthography, phonics (encoding and decoding), and word analysis in culturally, linguistically, and developmentally diverse K-6 classrooms. Candidates will develop lesson plans, and participate in rehearsals, partner school teaching, video reflections, and analysis of teaching. Prerequisites: Admission to Educator Preparation.
