This course is the study of prose, poetry, and drama by American authors of African ancestry from the Reconstruction to the present. Their works will be studied in relation to the cultural and literary traditions of their times. Chesnutt, Johnson, Cullen, Bontemps, Hughes, Wright, Ellison, Baldwin, Yerby, A. Walker, M. Walker, and other writers will be included. Prerequisite: ENGL 101.
