This course explores current research, theory, strategies and resources that enable students to acquire theoretical and practical knowledge to design research-based literacy activities and environments. Topics explored inlude: the social content of literacy learning; stages of language and literacy development; role of families in supporting literacy development; cultural and linguistic similarities and differences; English language learners; performance-based assessments; and adaptations for children with special needs.
