Description

The goal of this course is to explore the role alcohol and drugs have played historically in politics, society, and the economy from a comparative cross-cultural perspective. Using a wide range of historical, archaeological, and ethnographic sources, we will identify common themes in the social uses of alcohol and drugs, and interpret he symbolic meanings people in different societies attach to drinking and drug use.
