This course will present a study of western and non-western music, and will include analysis of music literature from western culture and a select group of non-western cultures. The musical styles will be studied chronologically except when no historical data is present. In the case of that exception (ex. Native American Music or Afican Music), those styles will be studied in the time period that historical data is present (written accounts or recordings). (F)
