This course traces the history of Latino influence in the United States, from the arrival of the Spanish in the 1500s to the massive immigration of Latin Americans in the 20th and 21st centuries. It seeks to explain the reasons behind the migration northward, and to show how the Latino presence has changed how we think about race and ethnicity, education and language, labor and capital, religion and politics. The class is conducted in English. Prerequisite: None. (F;S)
