Abebe Kebede is a physicist and technology educator who designs multisensory, accessible pathways into STEM—especially for people with disabilities. He is not disabled; he is an ally and advocate who builds tactile, auditory, and haptic learning tools, including an affordable spectrometer, and leads Saturday Academies and inclusive teacher research programs.

Founder and international liaison of Ethiopian Educators Without Borders (EWD)—a North Carolina–based 501(c)(3) formerly known as ESAN with ~100,000 followers—he connects youth to scholarships, mentors, and research. EWD/ESAN launched the Gondar School of Science and Technology (2010), seeded IHY Africa/SCINDA space-weather efforts, and organized major book drives strengthening libraries across Ethiopia.

His international outreach is borderless: he founded the African Materials Research Network and the Ethiopian Astronomy Network; created ASTAO, the African Asteroid Search Campaign, and HiSEAT, where global cohorts learn Radio JOVE, use SID monitors, and analyze open space-weather data.

Guided by a facilitative teaching philosophy, Abebe empowers students with shared ownership, problem-based projects, and citizen-science collaborations (including asteroid discovery). His materials-physics research spans thin films and X-ray spectroscopy toward reproducible, low-cost methods.

Anchored in American values—scientific achievement, educational opportunity, pluralism and religious freedom, democracy, entrepreneurship, social justice, and environmental stewardship—he treats science as a public good and inclusion as a design principle.
