Biography
Dr. Cecily Barker McDaniel received her B.A. from Xavier University of Louisiana, her M.A. in American History from Slippery Rock University, and her Ph.D. in African American Women’s History from The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. Professor McDaniel specializes in nineteenth and twentieth-century African American history and has an expertise in African American Women. Her research investigates African American female attorneys from 1872-1932 and their connections to a black feminist tradition. She has co-edited a textbook entitled Africana Legacy and has written several book reviews. Professor McDaniel has taught both undergraduate and graduate courses on US History, African American History, Women’s History, the Civil Rights Movement and Women’s Resistance. Dr. McDaniel sees the field of history as a vehicle of service and has therefore committed herself to serving her community through education and volunteerism.
