Biography

Dr. Sankar is the first Distinguished University Professor of North Carolina A&T State university (N.C.A&T) in its 133 years history and made N.C.A&T a national powerhouse in advanced materials research. He serves/d as director of Army, DoE, Navy, multiple NSF, and Site coordinator for the NSF- NSEC Center, in addition to many research programs with NASA, AFRL and industries. Also under his leadership, N.C.A&T made history (2008 -2022) as the lead to house the NSF’s crown jewel Gen 3 -ERC for Revolutionizing Metallic Biomaterials (RMB) and as the 1st HBCU to create a Bioengineering program. In 2022, as a Co-lead with the OSU he won the NSF Gen 4 -ERC for Hybrid Autonomous Manufacturing Moving from Evolution to Revolution (HAMMER) (back-to-back ERCs) another first in the history of NSF.​​
