Biography
Dr. Phoebe Butler Ajibade is a public health education, wellness, and physical activity health promotion instructor, advocate and researcher. She examines correlates of health behavior, health literacy, and strategies to reduce cardiovascular disease and obesity through increased phyical activity, nutrient intake, stress management, and social support groups in churches, communities, and worksites. Her research on Freshmen 15, tobacco use prevention, physical activity and app usage, and church-based health education, parish nurses and exercise programming have been funded by the National Institutes of Health (contractor with UNC-CH); American Cancer Society, Be Active North Carolina, and Region 3 DHHS/VDH. She was trained at Radford University (Community Health), Old Dominion University's Department of Community Health Professions and Physical Therapy; and The George Washington University. She began her career at the Medical College of Virginia/VCU Health and Richmond Veteran's Administration in the renal hemodialysis unit. She has also worked at health departments in Richmond and Tidewater, Virginia, and as Practicum Coordinator for Community Health and Health Administration at Old Dominion University; as well as, Visiting Assistant Professor at Florida Atlantic University in Davie and Boca Raton, Florida. She began teaching college full-time in several positions at Hampton University teaching health education classes, and working as a student study and preparation manager in School of Pharmacy at Hampton University, where she assisted with preparing applications for funding to HRSA with pharmacy professors.
