Stephen Hancock

Dr. Stephen D. Hancock’s academic achievement teaching excellence is reflected in sustained leadership, international engagement, and student impact. He teaches introductory and advanced qualitative research methodology and leadership courses that supports students’ intellectual growth and scholarly identity. His leadership, teaching, and mentoring contributions have been recognized through community engagement and institutional awards, including the Erasmus Program Lecturer in Residence at the Pedagogische Hochschule (2012), European Cooperation in Science and Technology (2020-2024), the Visionary Guidance and Leadership Award from the Renaissance West Community Initiative (2023), the International Lecturer Award from the Pan African Leadership Institute (2025), the Keynote at the Festival of Learning, Kingston University (London, 2025), and guest lectures at Pedagogische Hochschule (2009), University College London (2017-2025), Maynooth University (2018), Fulda University of Applied Science (2021), and Kingston University (2023). These recognitions and experiences are evidenced of his sustained international teaching, leadership, and influence.

Dr. Hancock is an internationally recognized scholar of curriculum, intersectionality, and leadership. He has written many chapters, articles, and has co‑edited three published scholarly books and has two additional edited volumes in press, contributing foundational scholarship to educational leadership, autoethnography, and teaching, curriculum, and identity. His work on curriculum trauma, through peer‑reviewed journal articles and book chapters, has shaped national and international conversations on how curriculum influences student identity, well‑being, and leadership development. His scholarly impact is reflected in international teaching and leadership opportunities.

Dr. Hancock’s service achievements include Director of the International Conference on Urban Education (2012-Present), positioning the conference as a global site of scholarly exchange and Director of the Center of Excellence on Educational Engagement & Research (CEEER). He has led study abroad experiences to Germany and England, broadening undergraduate and graduate students’ global perspectives and engagement with international educational issues. As Director of CEEER he has established the Undergraduate Research Scholars program that supports national and international research projects and experiences.
