Abstract

We have completed the building of an extensive database of correlated acoustical and seismic signatures of a large number (exceeding 850) of civilian vehicles. Each acoustic signature is obtained through two high-quality microphones separated by 25 feet, and whose signals are exactly synchronized. The seismic signature is through a high-quality accelerometer, which is weakly synchronized with the acoustical signals. Preliminary results presented here show that the mean spectral skewness and kurtosis can be used to distinguish different branded vehicles. We present our data collection procedures and some experimental results based on the computation of the acoustic and seismic spectral features for Honda, Nissan and Toyota cars.
