Abstract
The redox regulation of protein and low molecular weight (LMW) thiols has emerged as an exciting field for discovery in biomedical research and clinical implementation. Decades of basic research of redox-regulated and redox-regulatory proteins complemented by new methodologies for characterization and functional analysis of these proteins in multicellular systems have been instrumental in advancing redox concepts in medicine. Herein we describe the basics of protein and LMW thiol redox chemistry, methods of analysis and computational integration in complex systems, along with opportunities for clinical translation.
