Abstract
Back by popular demand for its third iteration, this panel discussion will cultivate a space for Black men to share their testimonies, trials, and triumphs from working in library settings across the nation. These stories have rarely been elevated, as Black men hold less than 1% of all MILS degrees in the United States. In this session, attendees will hear from Black men who hold leadership positions in public libraries, academic libraries, and advocacy organizations. Panelists will discuss their pathways into the profession, including obtaining MILS degrees and more unconventional journeys. Attendees will have an opportunity to learn strategies and dialogue about workforce diversity initiatives, workplace culture and climate, and the value that Black men bring to libraries and beyond. Collectively, we will explore strategies to diversify the profession by recruiting, retaining, and promoting Black men in libraries.
