Abstract

Case managers are essential members of the health and human services profession. The case manager’s critical role in the health and human services profession is vital to coordinating services and meeting the holistic needs of clients. Case managers possess unique knowledge and skills in a variety of areas, such as psychology, social work, and counseling, essential for meeting the specific needs of clients served. The need for case managers in forensic environments continues to evolve. This chapter explores the unique role and function of case managers working in forensic environments, along with different areas in which they operate, including expert testimony, workers compensation, personal injury, disability management, life care planning, and criminal case management. Forensic interviewing in child sexual abuse cases, along with knowledge of the importance of diversity and cultural competency in case managers, is also addressed. Case studies and discussion questions are provided to enhance critical thinking skills and practical application of concepts learned. Through the examination and analysis of case managers in these various roles and functions, the reader is presented with multifaceted and holistic look into the world case managers in forensic settings.
