Abstract
Electrospun nanofibers due to their higher surface to volume ratios are extensively researched as secondary reinforcement in composite materials during recent times. In this study, effect of silane treatment of elctrospun SiO2 nanofibers mat on mode I delamination behavior of nanofiber interleaved glass/epoxy composite is investigated. Composite panels are fabricated by interleaving nanofiber mat in the mid-plane of the laminate using out of autoclave process. Silane coupling agent (3-Aminopropyl)triethoxysilane (APTES) is used to carry out silane treatments using liquid phase deposition (LPD) and vapor phase deposition (VPD) method. The results of mode I characterization showed that VPD method of silane treatment is more appropriate for silane treatment of electrospun nanofiber mats.
