Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

This book chapter examines how student success librarians at private colleges and universities collaborate with student affairs departments to enhance student success, particularly for students from underrepresented backgrounds. Drawing on the professional experiences of two Black librarians, the chapter highlights the value of relationship-driven outreach, culturally responsive programming, and strategic partnerships across campus. Emphasizing mentorship, inclusive instruction, and community engagement, the authors demonstrate how academic librarians support retention, foster belonging, and advocate for student empowerment. The chapter also reflects on the challenges and opportunities unique to private institutions and underscores the essential role librarians play in aligning library services with institutional goals for student development and success.
