Abstract
SBS slow light is attractive because optical pulse delay can be tuned without changing fiber length [1,2,3]. The delay depends on Brillouin gain, linewidth, pump power, pulse width, and effective interaction length. Prior work demonstrated measurable delay in long silica fiber using an RF-modulated signal and counterpropagating pump[4,5].This paper uses those measurements to compare a compact Python model with experimental SBS slow-light behavior. The model predicts the average pulse-delay trend, while residual spectral features are examined for guided acoustic-wave Brillouin scattering (GAWBS) and multimode acoustic resonances. The contribution is to connect prior SBS/GAWBS slow-light measurements with a compact computational model that separates average delay prediction from acoustic-mode spectral effects.
