Abstract
A new low cost fabrication process known as Vacuum Assisted resin transfer molding (VARTM) to manufacture composite laminates, presented in new laboratory experiment in MEEN 300 Experimental Methods in Engineering in undergraduate mechanical engineering curriculum, is discussed. This experiment emphasizes mechanical engineering concepts such as ability to apply knowledge of science, ability to design a process to meet desired needs. The good quality composite panel is free from any defects such as random air pockets at the surface, dry fibers, large variations in thickness. Four different types of composite materials, depending upon the matrix used, are also described.
