Abstract

Presented Leveraging LinkedIn at the 2023 AISES Region 7 Conference, providing professional development focused on workforce readiness, leadership development, professional networking, digital literacy, and career advancement for Indigenous students, educators, and professionals. The session was designed to help participants strategically utilize LinkedIn as a tool for building professional relationships, increasing visibility, expanding career opportunities, and strengthening pathways into STEM, education, business, government, and other professional fields.The presentation explored practical strategies for creating impactful professional profiles, effectively communicating skills and experiences, developing authentic professional brands, and engaging with professional communities. Participants learned how to leverage digital platforms to connect with mentors, industry leaders, employers, educational institutions, and professional organizations while expanding access to internships, scholarships, leadership opportunities, and workforce development resources. The session emphasized the importance of intentional networking and relationship-building as critical components of career success and professional growth.Particular attention was given to supporting Indigenous learners and professionals as they navigate educational and career pathways. Discussions focused on increasing Indigenous representation within professional networks, strengthening access to social and professional capital, and utilizing technology to create opportunities for leadership development, mentorship, and community engagement. The presentation encouraged participants to view LinkedIn as a platform for storytelling, advocacy, knowledge sharing, and professional collaboration in addition to career advancement.The session also highlighted the relationship between digital literacy, economic mobility, workforce development, and lifelong learning in an increasingly interconnected and technology-driven economy. Participants explored how strategic use of professional networking platforms can support personal growth, leadership development, educational attainment, and access to emerging career opportunities while fostering stronger professional communities and collaborative partnerships.This presentation informs my teaching, research, and service by advancing my work in workforce development, Indigenous education, leadership development, educational technology, digital literacy, community engagement, and professional learning. The presentation reflects a commitment to empowering learners and professionals to leverage technology responsibly, build meaningful professional networks, and access opportunities that support educational success, economic mobility, and long-term career advancement.
