Abstract

This study explored the extent to which perceived immediacy mediated the relationship between articulated dissent and structurational divergence. Based on a sample of 350 working adults, the results reveal that perceived immediacy does mediate this relationship. Specifically, perceived immediacy mitigates the effects of structurational divergence on articulated dissent. This is an important finding since immediate supervisors may not always possess the authority to make organizational decisions. Yet, the mediation implies a strong connection with one’s supervisor may suppress the effects of structurational divergence. Theoretical and methodological implications are discussed as well.
