Abstract
Picloram (1918-02-1) is a herbicide belonging to the pyridinecarboxylic acid family with wide variety of uses basically in weed control. It is a colorless crystal at room temperature with a chlorine-like odor, which is not expected to be adsorbed to the soil and may leach to groundwater. The chemical is absorbed into the body by inhalation and ingestion causing several adverse effects to living models. This article reviews the environmental fate and behavior of picloram. In addition, its toxicokinetics, acute and chronic toxicity, immunotoxicity, reproductive and developmental toxicity, genotoxicity, carcinogenicity, clinical management, and exposure standards and guidelines are discussed.
