Abstract
Thiabendazole (CAS 148-79-8), a compound with a benzimidazole group, is known for its uses as a parasiticide and fungicide agent. Thiabendazole does not hydrolyze readily, nor it is metabolized in soil under aerobic or anaerobic conditions. Typically, birds and mammals can be exposed to such pesticide when applied as foliar sprays or granules, via a variety of routes, including ingestion, dermal contact, and inhalation. This article reviews the general background, uses, environmental fate and behavior, toxicokinetics, exposure routes and pathways, toxicity, and carcinogenicity of thiabendazole. Further, its clinical management, exposure standards and guidelines are also discussed.
