Abstract
Presented the poster Transforming Digital Access for Indigenous Communities: Innovation, Sovereignty, and Culturally Responsive Digital Learning at the 2026 Aggies Research Showcase: Now, Next and Beyond at North Carolina A&T State University. This scholarly presentation examined the intersection of digital equity, Indigenous education, educational technology, tribal sovereignty, and culturally responsive learning environments, highlighting both the opportunities and challenges associated with expanding digital access within Indigenous communities. The poster explored how disparities in broadband connectivity, access to technology, digital literacy, and educational resources continue to affect Indigenous learners and communities. Beyond issues of physical access, the work emphasized the importance of culturally relevant digital learning experiences that honor Indigenous identities, languages, knowledge systems, and community values. The presentation examined how educational institutions, tribal nations, policymakers, and technology leaders can work collaboratively to develop sustainable and inclusive approaches to digital learning that support both educational achievement and cultural preservation.Particular attention was given to the role of innovation, educational technology, artificial intelligence, and digital transformation in expanding opportunities for Indigenous learners. The presentation highlighted strategies for strengthening STEM pathways, workforce development, educational attainment, and leadership development while promoting equitable participation in an increasingly technology-driven society. The research emphasized that digital inclusion must be grounded in community engagement, self-determination, and Indigenous leadership to ensure that technological advancements contribute positively to community well-being and long-term sustainability. The poster also underscored the importance of strategic partnerships among tribal communities, higher education institutions, K–12 schools, nonprofit organizations, governmental agencies, and industry leaders in addressing digital disparities and creating pathways to opportunity. By integrating culturally responsive educational practices with innovative technologies, the work proposed frameworks for expanding access, strengthening community capacity, and fostering educational and economic advancement. This presentation informs my teaching, research, and service by advancing my work in Indigenous education, digital equity, artificial intelligence, educational leadership, STEM education, community-based participatory research, workforce development, and educational technology. The project reflects a commitment to reducing inequalities, strengthening community resilience, supporting tribal sovereignty, and empowering Indigenous learners and communities through innovation, culturally responsive education, and collaborative leadership.
