Biography

Dr. James J. Hairston (“Dr. H.”) is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Leadership Studies & Adult Education at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (NC A&T), the nation’s largest historically Black university. A scholar, practitioner, and leader, Dr. Hairston’s work spans higher education, public administration, and community engagement, with a focus on developing inclusive leaders and advancing equity for historically underserved populations.

 

In addition to his faculty role, Dr. Hairston actively contributes to statewide and national conversations on leadership, student success, and community well-being. His career reflects a balance of research, teaching, consulting, and service—anchored by his commitment to improving outcomes for marginalized communities.
