Biography
Dr. Zahra Fazli Khalaf is an Assistant Professor of Psychology (Tenure Track). She earned a Ph.D. in Psychology with a concentration in gender and sexual health, complemented by a Master of Arts in Women’s and Gender Studies and a Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling.
Dr. Khalaf’s research focuses on sexual and reproductive health, sexuality, and mental health processes across diverse cultural contexts. Grounded in the Social Ecological Model of Health, her work examines how individual, interpersonal, community, and sociocultural factors intersect to shape health behaviors, psychological well-being, and access to care among marginalized and global populations.
Dr. Khalaf’s research has been supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Yale University, and the Association for Psychological Science (APS).
She is an APS Awardee for Teaching Global Psychological Science and leads international efforts to advance culturally sensitive graduate training in psychological science in Central Asia (Tajikistan).
Dr. Khalaf is the graduate coordinator for the Masters of Science in Health Psychology and teaches courses on Psychological Research Methods, Psychology of Women, and Applied Health Psychology.
