Dr. Christopher K. Horne, P.E., is a Teaching Assistant Professor in the College of Engineering at North Carolina A&T State University and an ACUE-certified college instructor specializing in STEM education. With over 20 years of engineering experience in building construction, wireless communications, and technology leadership, he brings both professional expertise and a passion for simplifying complex concepts for undergraduate students. Since 2010, he has taught at East Carolina University and NC A&T, where his courses include Problem Solving with MATLAB (ECEN 101), Circuits I & II (ECEN 200/300), Electric Circuits Laboratory (ECEN 306), Electronics and Electronics Lab (ECEN 320/326), and Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence (ECEN 377).
In addition to his academic work, Dr. Horne has served as a Business and Technology Leader, helping companies achieve growth, enhance customer satisfaction, and secure market leadership across diverse industries, including work in Mexico, Asia, and the Middle East. He is also an entrepreneur, having founded two successful companies in real estate and technology, and an active industry speaker and moderator.
Dr. Horne’s research focuses on educational technology and innovative teaching methods in STEM. His recent publications include Leveraging AI Chatbots to Enhance Student Understanding of Electric Circuits, Increasing Student Learning in STEM Using iPads and Note-taking, and Introducing First Year Students to the Running Track Analogy of an Electric Circuit. He has presented at ASEE, IEEE EDUCON, and SoTL conferences, with his work emphasizing active learning, analogies, and the ethical use of AI in engineering education.
Beyond the classroom, Dr. Horne serves as faculty advisor to the IEEE Student Branch, as a Faculty Fellow with the Defense Civilian Training Corps (DCTC), and as a member of the College of Engineering’s Effective Teaching Strategies team. Since 2023, he has also served as a University Member of the North Carolina Board of Examiners of Electrical Contractors, providing professional oversight and contributing to the advancement of the electrical engineering profession in the state.
Through his combined contributions in teaching, research, service, leadership, and professional practice, Dr. Horne is committed to advancing student success and supporting NC A&T’s mission as a leader in engineering education.
