Personal profile

Biography

I earned a Ph.D. and M.S. in Social Psychology from Howard University and a BA in Psychology and English from Truman State University. As a social psychologist, I have two programs of research, one at the intersection of social psychology and health and the other at the intersection of social psychology and education. I am currently working on an NIH-funded study entitled, How Health and Weight Management Social Media Messages Targeting Black Women Impact Health Behaviors. The primary goal of this study is to understand what health-related social media Generation Z African American women are exposed to and if social media content drives the health behaviors of Gen Z African American women. I am currently in the stages of qualitative report writing and quantitative data collection. I am also a Co-PI on an NSF-funded study entitled, Engaging Undergraduate Students in Interdisciplinary Participatory Science to Enhance Mathematics and Data Analytic Capabilities. The primary goal of this study is to create a wholistic program that trains students in Participatory (Citizen) Science methodologies in social and environmental sciences contexts. We are in stages of program design. I am also a Co-PI in an industry collaboration entitled, Change the Board Game. This is a study with e.l.f. Cosmetics designed to understand the impact diverse executive boards have on the success of industry leaders in the U.S. We are currently collecting quantitative and qualitative data.
